USA Mid-atlantics fall short in battle against the Mighty Montreal Red Phoenix.
Mid-Atlantics:
The USA Mid-Atlantics, last years finalists came in with a core of returnees and some high skilled additions. Where as the Patriots were more defensive minded, the Mid-Atlantics opened it up with a display of offensive power. Lead by All Tourney player Doug Sedille, All Tourney team selection Dave Purcell and Mike "I'm so Good Lookin" White the Mid-Atlantics looked like they had the talent to bring down the great Red Phoenix. The prelims ended up not living up to the high expectations of the team with tough losses to the Phoenix and Bermuda squads putting the team on its heals and into the bars for some soul searching as they entered the semi-finals and a scheduled rematch with a Bermuda team that they lost to. The Mid-atlantics responded in dominant form and took down Bermuda easily to force a rematch of the 2005 finals against the Red Phoenix. As the packed stands anticipated, the game was a back and forth battle seeing the game tied at half with both teams going at each other and playing at a very high level. In the second half the Phoenix capitalized on power play advantages and took a goal lead until the minute mark when they put the game out of reach with an insurance goal. The game ended with a bang as both teams met at center ice in a heated exchange with calmer heads and good sportsmanship prevailing as both teams shook hands and stood for the raising of the Canadian flag and national anthem.
